BEL W: Asterix national champions 4th time in a row, Smits retires at the age of 29 (VIDEO)

Asterix Avo had to fight hard to claim the fourth consecutive Women’s Volleyball title in Belgium.

The team from Kieldrecht won a deciding Game 5 of the playoff finals against Oudegem (3-2 in series) at home, only in the tie-break 25-21, 25-12, 17-25, 22-25, 15-9, to win national championship for the 11th time in club history, 4th in a row. In addition, Asterix also claimed national Cup this season, which means they ended 2016/2017 with a double crown.

Oudegem were worthy rivals in the final series, doing their best in Game 5 which was the most intense of all, recovering from two sets down.

The end of the final series will also be remembered by going to retirement of Asterix receiver Sarah Smits. She finished her volleyball career, in which she was awarded the best female player in Belgium in 2013 1nd 2016, at the age of 29.
