Eesti Maaülikooli Spordiklubi (Estonian University of Life Sciences Sports Club) won their first Meeste I liiga gold medal after 2015. Interestingly, between the title in 2015 and this year’s, they were eliminated in the playoff quarterfinals in both seasons.
As for the 2017/2018 surprising best-of-two playoff finals, the sixth-seed Eesti Maaülikooli Spordiklubi beat No.5 Rakvere Võrkpalliklubi II (“B” team of Rakvere, the first team competed in the 2017/18 Baltic League and finished fourth) in both final games, 3-2 (25-15, 19-25, 22-25, 25-16, 15-10) on the road and 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-12) in the rematch at home.
Previously, Eesti Maaülikooli kicked out No.4 TTÜ/KIILI in the quarterfinals (3-1, 3-0) and top-seed Tallinna Ülikool (Tallinn University) by a 3-1, 1-3 and 17-15 in the golden set, in the semis. As for Rakvere II, they eliminated No.3 Liider/Rae vald in the first round (3-0, 3-2) and second-seed LotusTimber/Neemeco SK by a 3-1, 1-3, and 15-9 in the golden set, in the semifinals.
