Polish players and their head coach Grbić didn’t present themselves in a good way to the audience in their debut in front own crowd in the VNL 2022. After a difficult Pool 6’s match full of twists and turns, the Poles lost to Iran 2-3 and got trampled in the tie-break. The matches between these two foes have a long and emotional history, filled with a lot of tensions on the court. But, the new generations now play for both Poland and Iran and these meetings no longer go beyond just pure sports rivalry. This time, the rejuvenated team from Asia showed that with many new faces in the team, they are still a very demanding opponent for the current world champions who came to Gdańsk with the strongest composition and a six-game winning streak, which got interrupted.

Amirhossein Esfandiar top-score Iran with 21 points.
