The Volleyball Bundesliga (VBL) will start the 2020/21 season without TV Rottenburg. After almost 20 years of competition in the Bundesliga, the club will not apply for a license for the 1st or 2nd Bundesliga in the 2020/2021 season. That decision comes as a result of a coronavirus pandemic that affected sponsor possibilities for the coming season.

In the Bundesliga, they were surprised by this decision because they felt that there was a possibility for the joint efforts to find a solution in this difficult situation.

There are also rumors that some other clubs are in a difficult situation about securing a budget for next season, so there is a possibility that TV Rottenburg will not be a lone case.

The Volleyball Bundesliga management expressed its readiness to engage, if necessary, in the process of finding a solution for clubs in this delicate situation.

As a first step, club applications and licensing deadlines for the upcoming season are postponed to a later date.
