The roster has undergone major changes since the end of the past campaign with seven players who have left the club from the Lake of Constance and head coach Stelian Moculescu will be working with a very young group. VfB has signed setter Jan Zimmermann from VCO BERLIN, Hungary’s Roland Gergye, Bulgaria’s Svetoslav Gotsev and also the libero of the French national team, Jenia Grebennikov, who is set to compete at the VELUX EuroVolley 2013 later this month. Together with Yannick Harms, Peter Trolle Bonnesen and Nikola Jovovic who have prolonged their stay on the shores of the Bodensee.
These players compose the young backbone of the team that will be playing in preliminary Pool G together with Knack ROESELARE of Belgium, Poland’s Zaksa KEDZIERZYN-KOZLE and Turkey’s Galatasaray ISTANBUL.
The roster includes nevertheless also much more experienced players, like for instance team captain and middle-blocker Max Günthör, universal Christian Dünnes, opposite Ventzislav Simeonov, outside spiker Valentin Bratoev, middle-blocker Viktor Yosifov and libero Thilo Späth.
“It’s a good combination between young and experienced players” says Moculescu. “I am really looking forward to the start of the coming season”.
VfB is still searching for an assistant coach to support Moculescu after his long-time partner Ulf Quell decided to leave Friedrichshafen to mentor another club that is competing in Germany’s first division, CV Mitteldeutschland.
