Legendary Greek Women’s volleyball player dies due to gastric sleeve surgery complications

One of the best ever Women’s volleyball players in Greece lost her life at the age of 44.

Anna Xerikou died in Belém, Brazil, due to complications caused by gastric sleeve surgery. More precisely, she lost her life due to septic shock, three days after undergoing operation.

Xerikou was one of the best players that Greek Women’s volleyball ever had. She was born on June 7, 1972, and wore jerseys of Milonas, ZAON, Drapetsona and Olympiacos, making dozens of caps for the Greek National Team. Xerikou was also the national champion in beach volleyball.

Before losing her life, she lost her brother in 2007 and father, four years ago. Xerikou will be cremated in Belém and her ashes will be transported to Greece afterwards.
