Shortly after traveling back from Brazil where they won bronze at the 2013 FIVB Club World Championship, Italy’s Diatec TRENTINO had the opportunity to discuss their goals and feelings for the start of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League. Their debut is coming up on Thursday night as they play Germany’s champions BERLIN Recycling Volleys.

“The city of Trento is always very honoured to be promoted across Europe via this competition” said the Sports Councillor of the Trentino Province, Paolo Castelli. “Once more we will be in the spotlight and I would like to thank the club and their President Diego Mosna for the opportunity they are providing to our city and neighbourhood to make the headlines. After winning, against all odds, the Italian Super Cup they just got back from Brazil where they won bronze at the Club World Champs though this year they have a very young team. I just hope that for the game with BERLIN we will get to see the same motivated team we cheered on this past October 9 as they routed MACERATA in the Super Cup”.

“Before we look at the start of the CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League let me say a few words and congratulate the team for what they have achieved in Brazil” said club President Diego Mosna. “This bronze medal means a lot and it did touch me as much as any of the past victories. I really wish we can keep and show that same spirit in the future too. We have decided to turn the page and invest on young players but I am sure that if they work with the right attitude and motivation, out of this group we will get another outstanding team. We already have some stars and some other players have the potential to turn into real stars if they continue to train and work with that same intensity and commitment”.

“The CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League is an important and very fascinating competition” added head coach Roberto Serniotti.Every country in Europe has got teams vying for international success. Our Pool is one of the toughest in the tournament but we absolutely want to make it through and reach the Playoffs. This is our goal”.

“We did not have much time to prepare for the game with BERLIN but we will do our best to start our European campaign in the best possible way” concluded team captain Emanuele Birarelli. “We are very committed to this goal and we will take our performance in Brazil as an extra motivation knowing that our fans will be supporting us too”.
