At the beginning of the fourth set of the match of the 2021/22 Serie A1 between the home side of Il Bisonte and newcomers Megabox, the head coach of the latter Fabio Bonafede felt a sudden sickness. It started in the interval between the third and fourth set. When the expert returned to the bench after a break, it was evident that he was not well and that he was struggling to stand up. Then the set began and after a few points, Bonafede collapsed to the ground. The medical staff put him on a stretcher and immediately took him to the nearest hospital.

A day later, the news on the Megabox website appeared stating that their coach is in good condition now. He had a strong allergic reaction due to food intolerance, more precisely – this happened because he ate food that contained gluten. Bonafede himself revealed that he suffers from celiac disease (a condition where the immune system attacks its own tissues when gluten is consumed) and that it usually happens to him at home at night.
