FIVB mourns passing of referees

Lausanne, Switzerland, December 1, 2011 – The FIVB was sad to hear of the untimely death of international beach volleyball referees Takashi Fujii of Japan and Jottie Redelinghuys of South Africa.

Both had officiated at FIVB events with Fujii performing at the last two Olympic Games in Athens and Beijing and actively refereeing throughout the 2011 season and Redelinghuys one of the first international beach volleyball referees in Africa, helping develop the sport in South Africa and the African Continent in its early days.

Both have served the sport tremendously at international and national level and they have made a significant contribution to the development of the sport in their respective countries José Casanova, FIVB Beach Volleyball Commission member said.

The FIVB and the beach volleyball family send their thoughts and condolences to their families and friends, as well as the Japanese and South African Volleyball Federations
