Bulgaria won the first set 21-17 with opposite Jani Jeliazkov and wing spiker Branimir Grozdanov both providing five points, alongside nine Egypt errors.
It was a very similar story in the second set with Jeliazkov’s blocks and Grozdanov’s spikes dominating Bulgaria’s scoring, as they moved ahead of Egypt in the second part of the set to take it 21-17.
Bulgaria made a strong start to the third set and were ahead 12-6 at the technical timeout as Egypt struggled to find any effective net blocking, and pushed that advantage to take the final set 21-12.
Wing spiker Omar Hassan (6) and opposite Ahmed Shafik (6) contributed points, but wing spiker Ahmed Elkotb was Egypt’s top scorer with 10.
On day two of competition Bulgaria play with Dominican Republic, while Egypt again have the final match of the day, and will face Tunisia.
