Serbian Volleyball Federation (OSSRB) parted ways with the men’s national team head coach Slobodan Kovač in a way that it didn’t inform him in person, according to the expert himself.
Kovač is no longer the head coach of the Serbia National Team. The expert explained in an interview for Sportski žurnal how he found out that he was let go from the post.
“The federation is dissatisfied with the results and believes that the change can lead to better ones. Informally, about a month ago, I talked to president Zoran Gajić. We concluded that fourth place at the European Championship isn’t the result we expected and that it could’ve been better. I don’t know if he expected me to resign then. I thought that after one good season we could be better. At this moment the situation isn’t the best. I think it’s only wrong that no one called me but I learned from Podraščanin (the middle blocker of the national team) that I’m no longer head coach,“ stated Kovač.
He led Serbia Men since August 2019, and after less than a month on the bench, Kovač won the CEV European Championship. However, after great success in Paris, Serbia didn’t manage to qualify for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, and a little over a month ago, it ended fourth at the EuroVolley.
