The 30-year-old Japanese setter, Olympian from Tokyo Games, Naonobu Fujii, published on his Instagram profile that he had an advanced stomach tumor. The captain of the V.League side Toray Arrows explained that after one game at the end of last year, he had sore eyes and his symptoms haven’t improved for a while. That’s when he learned to have cancer.

“When I was hospitalized for various factors, I was found to have stomach cancer. Eye symptoms appear to be affected by cancer metastasis from the stomach to the brain. There may be more metastases. From the above, I’d like to report that I’ve been diagnosed with: stage IV stomach cancer,” Fujii posted.

The player added that he’ll stay away from volleyball for some time, focusing to overcome the disease, the fight for which he stressed to have a strong will.
