Germany has beaten Japan in their previous two matches this season, and this time they defeated them in three straight sets (25–16, 25–17, 29–27).
Marvin Prolingheuer was the top scorer in German team with 15 points. For the losing Japan side, it was the hard-hitting Kunihiro Shimizu leading the way with 12 points.
