Japan will organize the FIVB World Championship 2018! FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F°, who was attending the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Finals in Tokyo, thanked Japan for its continuous support to the development of volleyball.

This will be a very special World Championship as it will take place just two years before the Tokyo Olympic Games. Japan and volleyball have a long history together. It was during the 1964 Tokyo Olympics that volleyball entered the Olympic programme as the first women’s team sport in the Olympic Games. And Japan won the gold medal in those Olympics, precisely 50 years ago. Japanese organization of events is always of the highest level, as well as the level of television production. I’m sure that TBS will present to the world spectacular images of volleyball and will promote the event in a way as to create a lot of excitement and expectation in the Japanese fans.”

JVA President Dr. Yuichiro Hamu added:

“We truly believe that sport has absolute power to integrate, unite and teach people how to prevail in the face of any difficulty. We, the Japanese Volleyball Association, as the organizer of the FIVB Women’s World Championships 2018, have great pleasure to demonstrate our belief in the true nature of  sport by staging this event not only for the enjoyment of the global volleyball family but also for the fans of high quality sport all over the world. It is a glorious challenge, but we believe in the end we will have greatly contributed to the development and promotion of our beloved sport.”

There is no other country interested to organize WCH!!! Mr. Graca should give the answer to this question: Why every second year Japan has to organize WCH knowing that their team will not get even into the quarter-finals???

I think you already gave the answer, unfortunately no other country has interest to organize the WCH!!!

Japan won`t even get in the quater-finals? To say something so stupid like that means you are not a volleyball fan.

Since 2009 Japan is the one and only country to reach the final 4 of every major competition ( World Championship, Olympics, World Cup and Champions Cup). Not even Brazil have done that, Brazil finished 5th at the 2011 World Cup.

Here is what Japan has done.

2009 Grand Champions Cup – 4th
2010 World Championship – BRONZE MEDAL
2011 World Cup – 4th place
2012 Olympic Games – BRONZE MEDAL
2013 Grand Champions Cup – BRONZE MEDAL

But you said Quater-finals right??
Well they got 5th at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games also.

Just for the record they lost in Beijing the quater-final match, 2010 World Champions semi-final and 2012 Olympics semi-final for Brazil.

@Fabio To say somebody that is stupid, it takes a lot of courage! I will never allow myself to finish on that low level of education…

Speaking about the Olympic games, I do not understand so much about volleyball but isn’t it that in 2004 and 2008 all the teams who lost quarter-finals took 5th place at the end of the competition? That’s how Japan arrived so highly ranked 5th…

World Cup, Grand Championship Cups? I do not understand so much about volleyball, but weren’t all this tournaments organized by Japan Companies (TBS, Mikasa, Senoh…) in Japan for Japanese people and without any big importance than winning some money at the end? And the only games played in full gyms were the ones when Japan played? For all the other games the gyms were EMPTY!!! Congratulations for the organization!

The federations organize competitions and spend money to WIN them, not to participate. I do not understand so much about volleyball, but it looks like Japan didn’t WIN anything important in the last 20 years? The question is:

WHY FEDERATIONS WITH THE POSSIBILITY TO WIN DON’T WANT TO ORGANIZE THIS ‘IMPORTANT’ VOLLEYBALL COMPETITIONS LIKE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP? Or: WHAT DOES JAPAN RECOGNIZE IN THIS TOURNAMENTS THAT OTHERS DON’T?

The reason Japan is always organizing/hosting almost all the International Volleyball events is because unfortunately only Japan seams to have sponsors that can afford and want to spend money on the sport of volleyball.

Volleyball is the 2nd most popular sport around the world but unfortunately volleyball is not a rich sport,

Many countries just don`t have sponsors that can afford organizing and hosting volleyball competitions, or just don`t have interest.

The reason federations don`t organize these competitions is mostly because they can`t afford. Japan is a rich country, no violence, they have good arenas, good transportation system. And so on.

Do you think Brazil could host a World Championship? They did in 1994, and they could do again. But would just not be a good as can be in Japan,

First the Volleyball Federation does not even has much interest.simply because they don`t have money. Second there`s not a lot of sponsors for volleyball in Brazil, even tough volleyball is the 2nd most popular sport.
There`s basically only one TV Channel in Brazil that would be capable to Broadcast the event, but they would have no interest, just like they don`t have now.
There`s probably only 3 arenas in the whole country big enough and in good condition. While all the volleyball teams only has arenas in really poor condition and too small.

Plus violence, poor transportation. and so on and on.

They just don`t have the same money used for World Cup Soccer and Olympics. And is probably like that everywhere else.

Not only in the past 20 years, but in the history of volleyball only Russia,China,Japan,Cuba,Italy and Brazil have won at least one major volleyball title ( Olympics,World Championship,World Cup and Grand Champions Cup).

and Italy only won their first in 2002 and Brazil only in 2005.

If Japan someday decides to stop spending their money on volleyball. Only international volleyball competition we will have left, would be the Olympics ( and that is even a maybe).

Just be thankful Japan is willing to host this 2018 World Championship and all the other events.
