Ataei was a professional volleyball player. He played as a middle blocker and he was a member of the Iranian national team. After he retired, he decided to become a volleyball coach. He has worked for 10 years in the Iranian national team and he was quite successful. Ataei has silver from the Asian Championship 2009 and from the Asian Games 2010, while he helped his country to win gold at the Asian Cup 2010.

Today, he is the head coach of Iranian club Kalleh and he is closely following FIVB World Cup 2015. So far, he is not very happy about the performance of his country.

“We had a lot of ups and downs so far at the tournament. We had no constancy in our performance. Slobodan Kovač is not the perfect coach, but the problem is not with him. His assistants are the problem. The only solution is to strengthen the coaching staff, because Kovač does not get any help right now during games.”

“When we are playing against top teams like Russia, Italy or Poland we perform well because of high motivation. But, when we are playing  against Argentina or Germany for example, then we have difficulties. Players can’t find motivation at the beginning and the coaching staff is unable to change that. They can’t give necessary help to players during the game. Just look at the match against Poland. We won the first two sets, but then lost concentration and it was over. We lost the match. “

“As long as we have so much ups and downs it means that the problem still exists.”
