Thailand and Japan both clinched easy victories over their rivals. Thailand took only 59 minutes to down Afghanistan in straight sets (25-16, 25-16, 25-19) while Japan, led by their top scorers Imamura Takahiko (13 points) and Fujinaka Kenya (10 points) trounced Sri Lanka 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-13) in 67 minutes.
Abdulhamid SUFI, head coach of Afghanistan team said “We still have problems of war in our country. Just when we were preparing to leave towards Iran 3-4 of our players got sick and they could not accompany the team, so we have come here with only seven players.”
