First round of Asian Jr. Men's Volleyball Championship brought Thailand, Afganistan, Japan and Sri Lanka to the court.

Thailand and Japan both clinched easy victories over their rivals. Thailand took only 59 minutes to down Afghanistan in straight sets (25-16, 25-16, 25-19) while Japan, led by their top scorers Imamura Takahiko (13 points) and Fujinaka Kenya (10 points) trounced Sri Lanka 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-13) in 67 minutes.

Abdulhamid SUFI, head coach of Afghanistan team said “We still have problems of war in our country. Just when we were preparing to leave towards Iran 3-4 of our players got sick and they could not accompany the team, so we have come here with only seven players.
