EEVZA W: Belarusian girls win EEVZA Junior Champs

Belarus caused quite a surprise by claiming the 2012 EEVZA Junior Women’s Championship held this past week in Kuldiga as they edged their neighbors from Russia in straight sets (25-20, 25-23, and 25-19). Read latest volleyball news on Worldofvolley.com.

They did so also to the delight of a very special guest, Mr. Ivan Grinevich, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Latvia. Russia eventually settled for silver after edging Poland in straight sets (25-21, 25-18, and 25-21), with this side having to be content with bronze.

The awards ceremony that rounded out the Championship was attended by the Mayor of Kuldiga, Mrs. Inga Berzina, by the President of the Latvian Volleyball Federation, Mr. Almers Ludviks, as well as by the General Director of the local Sports School from the Region of Kuldiga, Mr. Agris Kimbors. The local authorities awarded the best player of each participating team, namely Enija Bidzane (LAT), Kristiine Miilen (EST), Olga Frolova (RUS), Darya Sharshniova (BLR), Nikolina Bashnakova (AZE) and Paulina Baldyga (POL).
