Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle defeated GKS Katowice for the second time in the quarter-finals and entered the 2021/22 Polish Men’s Volleyball Championship semi-final.
No.1 ZAKSA relatively confidently advanced to the 2021/22 PlusLiga playoff semi-finals. In the two quarter-finals against No.8 Katowice, the players from Kędzierzyn-Koźle lost only one set. The team from Katowice, which changed their small hall Szopienice (due to an increased interest of their fans for the match) for a huge and a legendary place for Polish volleyball, Spodek, failed to change the disastrous statistics against ZAKSA this season of 3 defeats in 3 games.
Katowice started the match very bravely and took the opening set, but only after converting the 7th set ball. After that, Gheorghe Crețu’s team took an initiative and joined Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie, the first team to progress to the Top-4, in the semi-finals. Norbert Huber was the most efficient player in ZAKSA with 22 points (71% attack; 15/21), including 6 blocks.
