RUS M: Mikko Esko – “It’s not over yet”

by WoV

After Guberniya pulled of that crazy match in Belchatow last night, Finnish setter, Mikko Esko, expressed his thoughts.

“It was a very difficult game because the two teams have the same level of quality. Already the first meeting in Nizhny Novgorod was very fierce and yesterday again we saw a lot of fighting on the floor. For us it was a fantastic experience to be able to play here with such a responsive audience. I experienced it many times when I had the opportunity to play in Poland, together with the national team, but every time it impresses me. Generaly I’m happy – our club is very young and every year we improve. The main goal for this season is to win the CEV Cup and we are getting closer to achieving this goal.”

How did you managed to adopt the Russian lifestyle after spending time in Italy?

“Russia and Italy are two different worlds – different climate, different people, different volleyball. I’m from Finland, so the climate is not an issue for me. In Italy, I spent seven years – very fond memories of that time, but I needed a change. I am glad that I chose Russia, because I feel pretty good here. This new experience for me – I can get to know another culture and learn something new. With me in Russia is my family – wife and two small children, which is very important for me, because without them it would certainly be difficult for me to survive in Russia.”
