On September 11, Kazan will host the Russian Women’s Volleyball Super Cup match, where reigning national champions Dynamo-Ak Bars will go head-to-head with Russian Cup winners Dynamo Moscow. This prestigious event, separate from the league, marks the first time the Super Cup will be contested as an independent event.
The match is dedicated to the memory of Alexandra Chudina, a three-time world volleyball champion and accomplished track and field athlete. Aleksandra Chudina was a versatile athlete who excelled in both track and field athletics and volleyball. Starting her career at the age of 14, Chudina became a dominant figure in sports during the 1940s and 50s. In track and field, she won multiple medals, including silvers in long jump and javelin at the 1952 Olympics. She also set four world records throughout her career. In volleyball, Chudina captained the Soviet national team, leading them to three World Championships and numerous European titles. Post-retirement, she transitioned into coaching and sports administration.
