More and more Russian players are openly saying that they are not keen to go to Ankara for the European Olympic Qualifier.

After Nataliya Obmochaeva, who stated that the tournament should be moved to some other country due to the current political tension between Russia and Turkey, two more players raised their voice against traveling to Ankara.

“I think the whole Russian team are not eager to go to Turkey. I do not know whether all those things they are showing us on TV are true or not, but I am really afraid. It is a high level competition and there will be a lot of European teams, so we need to raise the issue of moving the tournament somewhere else. I am currently trying to imagine that we would need to go there and it scares me,” said Evgenia Startseva.

The same opinion has Ekaterina Kostanenko:

“Of course we have fears. We are afraid to go even to the store here, and imagine we would need to fly to Turkey. It’s terrible, and I do not know whether it is worth it. We would be risking our lives… I know that the other girls will support me.”

The European Olympic Qualifier should take place in Ankara, 4-9 January.

No need to worry November 30, 2015 - 6:08 pm

There has been no incident in Turkey towards any Russian citizen. So these demands have no grounds. Turkey will host all teams with traditional Turkish hospitality.

It is not about them being Russian or not. It is about being a human being.
With the attacks in Ankara and Paris, I dont think it is safe to anybody to even been even, especially for events etc. It is just a unecessary risk.

They need to find a safer place for the event
