When failure occurs, all problems come out on surface. That’s what happened to Russia Women’s National Team.

„Zbornaya“ was eliminated from the fight for the medals which is a huge failure for the European champions. After Ekaterina Gamova, who criticized head coach Yuriy Marichev, another Russian volleyball legend expressed a negative opinion on his work.

„I am not going to say what is right and what is not. Personally, I have a question about the composition and formation. And what about the words of Marichev after the match that 90% of the composition of the team was changed after the Games in London? It looks like an excuse. He, as the head coach, has built the structure for four years. I do not agree with the two debut players being enlisted to the team two days before departure for the Olympics – Irina Voronkova and Dariya Malygina. The issue is also on the setter. Pankova is used to be the first setter in all the games. Even Vetrova regularly plays as substitute in Dinamo Moscow. So why did he put Vetrova in the starting lineup against Brazil? Then, of course, Pankova began to worry,“ Elena Godina, one-time world and European champion with Russia NT said.

„And the most important is that even two days before the start of the Olympics, many of the players did not know whether they would go to Rio. This is absurd,“ former receiver added.

have to agree with her partly. vetrova performed okay. but i really do not get why he included malygina, who is just still way, way too raw for volleyball of this level. it’s really a mystery why malykh, who has always been a consistent substitute player, was not included.
