Vladimir Alekno, the head coach of Zenit Kazan and the Olympic champion with Russia from 2012, has commented on the recent results of Russia at the EuroVolley.

It was a pleasure to watch Russia. I would not make huge conclusions and I would not build some illusions if I was in a place of the players and coaches of the national team. Poland was not at their level. A good test will be the World Championship next year. After that, they can start preparing for the Olympics. Belgium and Slovenia are not the rivals for Russia, our guys were stronger mentally. They were very emotional, which is good,” says Vladimir Alekno.

Yes this is the sound of reasonable man. Russia played well – but other competitors were at their low. Except Germans who will long time have to wait to play volleyball like that starting from 3rd set of semifinals.

The part of a statement of V. Alekno concerning of Slovenia and Belgium is not fair and correct, provided the media did not distort them. However it reflects of opinion of some officials from big and strong vol. countries towards small ones – A result is a new, unjust WL format… Rather not analyze what had happened and why those pertinent NTs played as did… Yet, I have expected from V. Alekno something different – to support countries to which a harm, injustice is done. ECh was onlyone part of a repr. season…
