Nikolay Karpol has received one of Russia’s highest state awards after he was presented with the “Hero of Labour” award from Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin.

Nikolay Vasilyevich Karpol, who will turn 80 on May 1, is one of the most successful coaches in volleyball. 

At the Award Ceremony, President Putin said, “We have a lot of amazing, extraordinary people and the name of Nikolai Vasilyevich Karpol is probably known by people who have very little to do with sport. The most titled volleyball coach of the world, the most titled coach from Russia in any sport. Nikolay Vasilyevich gave bright, unforgettable emotions to more than one generation of fans – he personifies the victory itself, and inspires confidence for fans of volleyball.”

The title of “Hero of Labour” in Russia was established in March 2013. It is awarded for outstanding results in state, public and economic activities, contribution to the country’s social and economic development, including to the development of industry, agriculture, transport, construction, science, culture, education, health and other areas.
