TUR: Istanbul plays host to mini Volleyball festival

The sixth edition of “Turkey’s Mini Volley Festival” was held this weekend in Istanbul right next to the “Burhan Felek” Volleyball Hall that is currently hosting matches for the prelims of the 2012 CEV Volleyball European League – Men.

The event is being held in “Ekrem Kocak” track and field stadium with the support of Turkey’s Volleyball Federation, the Volleyball Foundation and the Istanbul Directorate for Youth and Sports.

Sponsored by Aroma, Algida and Finspor, the festival is joined by a total of 2’000 young athletes and 274 teams from all over Turkey. 33 mini Volleyball courts were set up there so that 66 teams can play at the same time, for a total of 1’500 matches that will take place throughout the weekend. The main goal of this project and festival is to support the popularity of Volleyball in Turkey and get as many youngsters as possible involved in the sport.
