Friedrichshafen, Germany, January 31, 2012. A “lion” joins Germany’s champions: right before the deadline set by the Bundesliga for completing international transfers, VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN signed Brazil’s Leonardo dos Santos who will stay up to the end of the season and is the fourth outside hitter included in the roster of the club based on the shores of the Lake of Constance.

The season will be long and exhausting. We expect a lot of tough matches”, says FRIEDRICHSHAFEN coach Stelian Moculescu, “and therefore we decided to sign a fourth wing spiker”.

The 32-year old player is well known in Friedrichshafen.

Last year he played for the archrivals of Generali UNTERHACHING and beat VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN in the cup final.

This season he played for Romania’s Remat ZALAU against FRIEDRICHSHAFEN during the prelims of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League, but lost two times against the group mentored by Moculescu.

Already before the Christmas break dos Santos decided to part ways with Remat ZALAU and has been since looking for another club to play for.

To play for VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN is a good thing”, says dos Santos.

That is what I wanted since years”.

Via his new teammate Idi, who also hails from Brazil, he has already collected pretty much information about his club.

That is a strong side with a good team spirit”, he says. As he was previously licensed for Remat ZALAU, dos Santos is eligible to play for Germany’s national champion only in the Bundesliga and not in the European Cups.

He will also miss the last act of the national cup with Generali UNTERHACHING coming up in early March as he was not part of roster by the time the semis were played.

Such limitations do not have much importance for dos Santos who wants to bring some Brazilian energy to the team.

I am a warrior, a fighter and a hard-worker”, he says.

I will try to support my team as good as I can. My primary goal is to win the national league”.
