International referees Ingeborg Kooter (NED) and Carole Hepp (LUX) were joined by four female line judges – Sandra Gradwohl, Elisabeth Leitner, Andrea Lippe and Eva Mayrhuber – nominated by the Austrian Volleyball Federation thereby contributing an absolute premiere in the history of the European Cups. With the FIVB and the CEV having embarked on an ambitious campaign that supports gender equality also among Volleyball and Beach Volleyball referees and a couple of ad-hoc seminars organized in the past couple of years in Rome and Montreux, the picture portraying that all-female crew is an additional confirmation that concrete actions are taking place to support the role and involvement of female referees on the international arena.
