1. Place damp volleyball shoes outdoors in the sun to dry. Remove the shoestrings to help the shoe air out completely.
2. Pour baking soda into two old socks. Tie the socks and place them inside the volleyball shoes. Allow the socks to sit in the shoes overnight to let the baking soda absorb the odors.
3. Sprinkle a fine layer of baking soda inside the volleyball shoes. Allow the baking soda to sit overnight, and then turn the shoes over and shake them to remove the baking soda.
4. Remove the insoles from the volleyball shoes and replace them, if possible. If you cannot replace the insoles, purchase insoles designed to kill bacterial growth.
5. Place a fabric softener sheet inside each shoe overnight. The dryer sheet will remove the odors and make the shoes smell fresh.
6. Examine the care tag inside the volleyball shoe. Determine if the shoes are machine washable. Place the shoes inside an old pillowcase, and put them into the washing machine. Allow the shoes to air-dry outdoors in a bright location.
