Allianz MTV Stuttgart beat direct rivals for the No.2 in Pool C of the 2020 CEV Women’s Volleyball Champions League, ŁKS Commercecon Łódź.

In a duel of Round 5 between the 2 national champions, German Stuttgart beat the Polish ŁKS thanks to a highly energetic performance that was noticeable both on the court and in the packed stands of the SCHARRena: 3-1 (17-25, 28-26, 25-16, 25-18). The Łódź based team had the lead in sets of 1-0 and 2 sets points in the 2nd set by failed to win the encounter. With this victory, Stuttgart leapfrogged rivals in the Pool C charts and took the 2nd place, becoming one of the 3 best pool’s runners-up that can get the quarterfinal ticket. However, Stuttgart even have a chance to directly go in the Playoffs as the first-placed side in the pool but Igor Gorgonzola Novara are to be asked about this as well. American Simone Lee top-scored for the winning side with 19 points, while Monika Bociek delivered 18 points for ŁKS.

After beating Dinamo Moscow in the previous round, Bulgarian side Maritza Plovdiv staged one more surprise and down French RC Cannes (3-1), making Pool E the most competitive of all pools in terms of the battle for the quarterfinals. Practically all 4 teams have a chance to reach the Playoff prior to the last round, some more, some less.
