Robertlandy Simón and Liván Osoria, two levers of the Cuba National Team, won’t be playing in the upcoming FIVB Challenger Cup to be held in South Korea, starting on July 28 and offering the place for the 2023 FIVB Volleyball Nations League for its winners. The absence of captain Simón and Osoria within the 12-player squad is due to the fact that they tested positive for COVID-19 in the last few hours and the regulations of the competition in the Asian nation are intransigent with these cases.

Cuba has never competed in men’s VNL, while the last time they took part in the competition’s predecessor, FIVB World League, was in 2016. The Caribbean side is coming to the Challenger Cup after winning the crown at the Pan American Cup Norceca Final Six in Mexico.
