The former volleyball player (retired in 2011) accepted our request for an exclusive interview, where he spoke about his career and his life after volleyball. Read it and enjoy it.

Do you miss volleyball?

I do miss volleyball. It has been part of my life since I was four years old. Competing, training and doing anything to win was my drug. Entertaining the crowd and going into battles with teammates was what I lived for. Winning titles became my obsession.

What do you do after volleyball career?

I still train every day. I play volleyball with a semi-pro team and we compete in the USA National Tournament. I play in a basketball league as well. I coach my son’s basketball team and support my daughters swimming team. I volunteer at my children’s school and try to help my community become better.

How do you spending your free time?

I don’t have much. I have a small steel business and a volleyball club that I own.

Could you describe us the best moment in your volleyball career?

Winning the Champions League in 2008 was the best moment in my career. I went to the Finals FIVE times, so to finally win the biggest tournament in Europe was my main goal. Winning in Beijing was number two.

Did you reach all your dreams in volleyball?

I achieved more! I won 15 titles in Europe, World League, Olympics, and for 15 years I got to play with the BEST five clubs in the world. Toray, Modena, Iraklis, Ural and Zenit!

Did you visit our website and what do you think about it?

I did. It looks great. I wish you success in helping grow the game of volleyball.

Ball grew up in Woodburn, Indiana, where he attended Woodlan High School. Because Ball grew up in a state that did not (and to this day does not) sanction varsity competition in boys’ volleyball, he only played competitively during the summer.

He made his first breakthrough at age 15 by getting an automatic position on the 1987 Olympic Festival. Ball also played basketball and was recruited by Bobby Knight to play the game at Indiana University.
