The presentation, with 126 countries attending, was held at the Disneyland Hotel as part of the FIVB World Congress.
Shuffler said the animated presentation by Thorsteinsson hit the target for countries such as his.
“It was fantastic!” he exclaimed. “I could see in a funny and organized way all that we would like to do in our country. He crystalized our thinking in a special way, with video illustrations that were very simple to understand. We live in different realities, but everybody needs to improve volleyball in their country with creative ideas.”
Shuffler explained that the most important thing is to have the tools to make changes.
“Over the last few years, the FIVB has been providing us with help to complement the efforts that are being done,” Shuffler said. “For development, we need time, effort, financial support, passion and patience. But without financial support, all other aspects will be difficult. That’s the point we talked about a lot today.
“It was the first time I talked at an FIVB Congress. For us – countries in the first stages of development – there are three more important factors: creative thinking, team work and commitment.”
Four years ago, Guyana started a new project called “The Sports, Education and Culture Train.” SECT is a non-profit organization that has as its primary goal the development of people through the organization and introduction of programmes in sport, education and culture.
