Coach Roberley ‘Rubinho’ Leonaldo said the objective was to test his whole squad of players against a professional team that was a little stronger than those they would face in the U23 tournament in Uberlandia, Brazil.

Playing to 21 points, the U23s lost four close sets on the first day, and then managed a 3-2 win on the second, which left Rubinho satisfied with the team’s performance and the fact that all of his players got game time ahead of the start of the tournament.

Wing spiker Lucas Loh took part on the second days, agreed with his coach and said the team played more positively in their second match. “This training had the objective of giving a tryout to all the team. Today we went into the match with a different attitude, more aggressive, and that helped a lot for the positive result.

Opposite Rafael, who featured strongly in the second training match, feels Brazil are ready for the challenge. “We have been in preparation for seven weeks and the feeling is good, with the team playing well we are confident for the tournament. We are hoping for the best in this competition.”

Brazil begin their tournament on Sunday 6 October against the Dominican Republic at Uberlandia’s Presidente Tancredo Neves Arena.
