In a spectacular final match in front of 18,000 spectators, who were visibly separated on the stands into “blue” and “red” fans, at Sportpaleis in Antwerpen, Knack Roeselare defeated Noliko Maaseik by a 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-16, 25-23) to win the 2017/18 Belgian cup (Beker van België).
Maaseik missed the chance to push the encounter to the tie-break as they dropped a 17-13 lead in the fourth set. Thus, Roeselare won their 11th trophy in the tournament, 3rd in a row, and beat Maaseik for the first time this season after losing three times.
“Am I the Man of the Match? I’m satisfied with my performance but above all, this was a team effort. We had lost to Maaseik three times earlier this season, but when we play for money, we can apparently do something more. In the fourth set, we really started to believe in a good outcome. We have reduced the gap and began to put pressure on Maaseik. It’s not only nice that we won the cup, it’s also important that we didn’t lose to Maaseik for the 4th time,” Roeselare opposite Hendrik Tuerlinckx said after the match.

18K people? That`s crazy. Italian and Brazilian Cup had only like 5k people. Vow Belgium loves volleyball.
