Since the end of May, Kauffeldt went through the entire preparation, including European League and World Grand Prix contested with the German team.
Still, two days before the big tournament, there was the bitter news for the 23-year-old. Italian coach on German bench had explained his decision:
“Berit did a great job throughout the summer and deserves to play the European Championship. But three middle blockers are enough, we need more attackers. Besides, I have decided that we will not appoint Lisa Thomsen as second libero. Lisa Izquierdo will be the second libero. I wanted to have her so she can learn from such a great tournament because I think she has a great future in the national team”.

It means that a total of nine vice European champions from Belgrade (Serbia) are in the squad, led by the captain Margareta Kozuch.
On Friday, Germany plays the opening match in Pool A against Spain (17:00).
