The 35-year-old Raffa Calloni announced this news on her Instagram:

After months of reflection, I decided to “hang the knee pads on the nail”. From today I will not play volleyball anymore. From tomorrow, start my new life as a grown-up.

Now I want to spend a few words for those who have been able to make these years a fantastic adventure. Start by coaches.

Thank you all! Even to those with whom I have not had a great relationship. Because each of you left me something and helped me to grow technically and personally.A special applause I want to do to my first coach Carla Graziani and Carlo Ceriani, because without you I would never have looked at this world. A giant thanks to Gianni Volpicella, Dragan Nesic and Marco Gaspari. I felt your trust at all times and it was an honor to work for you.

Thanks to all the companies that have chosen me. You have made it possible to turn my passion into a profession. I especially thank Nadia Brogioli and Michele Forte because over the years you have continued to care for me like a daughter, you are precious.

Thanks to all the organized fans because you have never made me miss your support. In particular, thanks to the VVB and Gioventù Gialloblù because we shared beautiful emotions and you are outside like balconies. I love you!

Thanks to all those fans and those people I met along the way that have become friends and real families for me. I love you so much!

Thanks to my Paolino. You are number 1! You have been a patient, capable and fun guide. I do not know how I would have done without you!

Thanks to all my friends. To those who helped me and those who hurt me. To those who were just passing through and to those who are still walking by my side. You have been the most important part of this journey and the most exceptional tool to grow and evolve. Thank you! Thanks to my sisters Sara Anzanello and Camilla Mezzera. You are the balm of my soul.

Thanks to my family and my love. Without you I would not have been able to do all this…”

During her career, she played only one season outside Italy, in Azerbaijan in Azeryol Baku 2011/2012. While in other 20 years she played for Jesi, Villa Cortese, Imoco Volley Conegliano, Il Bisonte Firenze and Liu Jo Nordmeccanica Modena.
