CAVB: African countries advance to second round of 2014 World Champs Qualifiers

Ten men’s teams and three women’s teams secured their tickets this weekend to the zonal phase of the African Qualifier for the 2014 FIVB World Championship following the end of the sub-zonal tournaments hosted by Cape Verde, Mozambique and Chad. Read latest volleyball news on Worldofvolley.com.

In the men qualifiers, Cape Verde, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville, Chad, Gabon, Botswana, Mozambique and Lesotho made their way to the second round of qualifiers (zonal phase) to be held next October and November 2013.

Cape Verde hosted the Pool B men’s tournament, with the hosts securing their first ever volleyball gold after beating the experienced Senegal team. Sierra Leone was the third team to make it to the second round. Mozambique, host of the men’s pool J qualifiers, also advanced to the next round of qualifiers along with Botswana and Lesotho. First time hosts Chad also qualified for the zonal phase joined by Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville and Gabon.

In the women’s qualifiers, Botswana, Swaziland and Mozambique proceed to the zonal phase.
