Match started as everyone expected. Barbolini’s team dominated first set never allowing Netherlands even the slightest chance of winning. First period has ended in a very one-sided score 25-15.
Netherlands responded with great opening of the second set, but couldn’t maintain it for a long time, since Turkish team regained comfortable lead at the second technical time out 16-13. Advantage kept going up and Turkey was at 2-0 in a heartbeat, 25-16.
Turkey was confident, victory was in the air and 8-4 in favor of Sonsirma and company seemed enough for victory. Yet Netherlands had something to say. Amazing defence and desire to win turned this set around. Oranje took the lead of Turkey (16-14) and in a close fought ending kept their nerves and won by 29-27.
Underdogs had the momentum and build on it. Turkey was now knocked down and couldn’t fight back. Throughout the whole 4th set, Netherlands held their lead and again won in a exciting end 26-24.
Then as it happens in tie-breakers, there was no favorite. Even though Netherlands won 3rd and 4th set, this was game for itself. Experienced Turkish team somehow kept their cool and managed to win by 15-12.
Sonsirma had much help in Tokatitlioglu and Darnel who scored 18 and 19 points respectively.
In the losing side Flier counted to 15 and Buijs to 14 points.
