Stijn Morand reviewed what the team has done in order to get well ready for the start of the season: “We played a series of international tournaments in Frasnes, Valenciennes, and Evreux, and we even made the final in Frasnes losing there to China’s Bohai Bank TIANJIN. We got fourth place in Valenciennes and went on to win the tournament in Evreux. We played many more friendly matches than in the last years but this was good because the team has undergone many changes since the past season. When it comes to the CEV Volleyball Champions League, our goal is to finish third in our group so as to make the Challenge Round of the CEV Volleyball Cup” Morand said. “Even though this is not easy, we will try to win every single game we play here in Belgium for our national competitions. It won’t be easy for the knock-out system was introduced right by the early stages of the national cup and many teams have strengthened their rosters. Our first goal is to win the Supercup coming up next week where we are set to play VC OUDEGEM, a team that this season is representing Belgium in the CEV Volleyball Cup”.
Team captain Maud Catry said she is very happy for Laura De Schrijver, Adeline Lemey, and Karolien Verstrepen all got back to Gent for the coming season. “We have already found the right chemistry also with the players that were added to the roster this year” she said.
“We are grateful to our sponsors for their commitment as only this way we have been able to register for the CEV Volleyball Champions League” said organizing director Kurt Notte. “We know that teams like VakifBank ISTANBUL and Atom Trefl SOPOT are definitely out of our reach but nevertheless we will try to make sure that GENT Dames and Belgium finally get their spot on the international Volleyball map. We go our own way and what we have achieved in the past testifies that so far we always made the right choices”.
