The Romanian team Volei Municipal ZALAU is getting ready for the first match in the 2014 CEV Volleyball Cup. The local heroes are facing the Russians from Guberniya NIZHNIY NOVGOROD on Tuesday. After a difficult season last year, the team from Zalau is hoping to achieve great results both in the European Cups as well as in their national league.

Volei Municipal ZALAU will be able to count on seven of the last season’s players: middle blockers Razvan Mihalcea, Mihai Gheorghita and Fabian Birau, as well as Peter Nagy, libero Adrian Feher, Vlad Tebies and youngster Rares Balean. Furthermore, ZALAU added to the line up some other important names, such as setter Adriano Lamb, who already played in the 2009/2010 season for the team, the Brazilian player Leo Dal Bosco Dall Agnol and Serbia’s Vojislav Skoric. Four talented and young players, Marian Bala from Phoenix SIMLEU, Gabriel Cherbeleata, Andrei Georgescu (both from Universitatea CLUJ NAPOCA) and junior middle blocker Claudiu Iov also joined the team. Head coach Aurel Vlaicu and his new assistant, Bogdan Nicolae, are eager to lead the team to some good performances in the 2014 CEV Volleyball Cup and impose their supremacy in the national league.

“I would say that the upcoming match will be extremely difficult, because Guberniya NIZHNIY NOVGOROD has extremely valuable players, such as the Finnish setter Mikko Esko, Serbian spiker Milos Nikic and also Nikolay Pavlov, who is one of the best opposites in the Russian league” said head coach Aurel Vlaicu. “It will be a tough match, but I hope that we stand a chance. We will fight for it, both during the home and away matches, hoping to deliver a good performance” he concluded.
