In the first match on Friday, the Finns beat the Belgians by 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-23). Lelu Ojansivu was the best scorer of the game with 19 points for Finland, while Sam Deroo scored 17 points for the home team.
“We have played volleyball to a very good standard on both days,” said Finland’s head coach Tuomas Sammelvuo. “Very good quality! The things that we have practiced in recent weeks have now been implemented in the games just fine. We have had good control of the attacking and the setting, but most importantly, we defended really well in both matches. Winning always raises the self-confidence and this is a good thing. Surely this has gone just as planned: we gained game time and experience. Of course, as always, some fine tuning must be done.”
