“Kidsvolley”, a special development program implemented by the Swedish Volleyball Federation, was the main topic there, especially as it has deeply changed the way many youngsters got familiar with Volleyball.
It is not just about the children and their involvement in the sport, but also about the right tools that are being used to motivate their coaches and develop their skills in making the kids familiar with the ABC of the sport. About 200 people – also from other sports – were in attendance as the Swedish Volleyball Federation disclosed the main strengths of the program addressed to kids aged from 6 to 9, facilitating their first approach to Volleyball.
“It is very nice to see that many other sports have realized that we have gone quite far with this program and its benefits” says Hanna Wigertz who works for the Swedish Volleyball Federation. Another member of the staff, Camilla Park, showed that Kidsvolley is extremely helpful in order to grow more players as well as leaders for the sport. “Kidsvolley is all about creating a playful, joyful and challenging atmosphere, making sure the kids gradually progress in the sport” she stresses.
The results of a special survey about the players’ motivation was presented by a consultant of the Swedish Volleyball Federation, Stefan Söderfjäll, who insisted on the necessity for the coaches to focus on this input to avoid that some young players decide to drop out from the sport at an early stage of their career.
