Australia’s coach Christopher Todd was elated to share his team’s main strategy in seizing Friday’s victory at the Shuangliu Sports Center.

“It’s really important that they know how to fight and that’s one of the things we’ve been really good at,” he said.

Todd admired his team’s effort in saving three match points in the decider.  A rotation error on the part of their opponents awarded the lead to Australia at 17-16. They finally took the match with a strong block down the middle.

Libero Gabrielle Seymour declared a lot of admiration for her teammates in safeguarding the net from their opponents’ attacks, as the Australian blockers scored a total of 10 points from successful deflections.

“One of our strengths is probably blocking, so there’s been a lot of work put in that,” she said.

With barely two weeks of training together, the Australian side showed their determination and tenacity to place 11th in the overall ranking of the tournament.

Captain Stephanie Phillips not only delivered with a total of 14 points, but she also provided the leadership to steer the team back to their main objective.

“I try to make everyone realise that we can do it,” she said.
