Team captain L.T.Hong credits Chinese coach Chen Gang patience in their month-long training and preparation for the tournament.

“I think he taught us many new things in order to practice our tactics and skills. Our coach also jokes around with us and this makes us feel better,” she said.

Vietnam’s tactics paid off in the first set as they were able to surmount Iran’s known advantage in powerful attacks. The Vietnamese side easily found their rhythm enabling L.T. Hong at left wing while relying on the defensive efforts of their receivers.

Iran retaliated in the second set and gained momentum from Ahmadi’s service aces. Iran initiated powerful kills from Talebi and sought advantage from their opponents’ errors. The Vietnamese side found their renewed momentum as N.T.T.Huong assisted in the attacking department.

In the final set, Vietnam found a way to reduce their errors. They continued to rally behind an effective offense and persisted in blocks when the opponents would stage their attacks.

The Vietnamese defenders scored a total of nine points off blocks. L.T.Hong took the honor of top scorer with a total of 16 points.
