Kazan team outplayed Lokomotiv Novosibirsk in the big final of the Russian Cup and regained the valuable trophy after 5 years.
“For a long time Zenit was without the Russian Cup. We havan’t won this competition since 2009, and therefore I am even more happy that we managed to seize the Cup in this season. This is the best possible New Year’s gift for our fans. Players did a great job. I am glad they withstood the busy schedule.” said Alekno for Russian media after the final.
This was the 4th time in history that Zenit has won the Russian Cup. They were the best in 2004, 2007, 2009 and finally in 2014.
