Competition in the Russian National Team is tough at every position in the roster. So, it is on a position of the libero as well.

Two best Russian liberos played against each other in the semifinals of the national Cup, three days ago. Zenit Kazan vs. Dinamo Moscow, Aleksey Verbov vs. Aleksey Obmochaev.

Verbov praised his competitior before the 2016 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Berlin (January 5-10).

„Aleksey was good. He has been always playing well in games against Zenit. He was throwing himself on the court like crazy. But, what I liked even more was that in the game for third place, he was one of the few who wanted to play, he fought. It was nice to look at him. Aleksey is still young, but let’s not forget that he was an Olympic champion already . I follow him, not as a competitor, but as one of the candidates for the national team. Now, we all have to be in the same boat, there should be no personal ambitions. Let’s send to Berlin those who are in better shape at the moment. I hope that Aleksy will continue in the same rhythm and won’t stop. Good players that are now in good shape are valuable as gold,“ Verbov stated.
