As Gian Luca Pasini from gazzetta.it transferred on his blog, player of Russia’s National Team and Dinamo Moscow said in a TV interview that the last time he took prohibited substance, meldonium, was during the Russian Cup Final Four. It means he was using it on December 12-13, 2015, before World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) put it on the list of illegal substances, on January 1, 2016.

Since meldonium usually stays in organism for two or three weeks, that would mean that it certainly remained, even in traces, in the body of Markin until the doping control made by WADA in Berlin after the semifinals of European Oympic Qualifiers, on January 9.

It also confirms the words of Vital Heynen, former head coach of Germany, who said that he knew Markin was tested after semifinals Russia – Germany.

Will Markin and Russia’s Volleyball Federation bear consenquences for this, we will see after the hearing on April 19.
