Although the case is still open, the latest events suggest that Alexander Markin will indeed avoid any penalty for consuming meldonium!

Recall that WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) announced that they will not prosecute any player who had less than 1 microgram of meldonium in his/her body while being tested, and Markin had “only” 300 nanograms which means that he should be released of all charges for using doping.

The player himself stated that this is a huge relief…

“Excellent news! For me and for the other athletes. Life is getting better. I think that at least half of the Russian athletes who have been suspended due to meldonium, will be released of all charges! I hope that justice will be done,” said Markin in the interview for sovsport.ru.

If the Russian player avoid any suspension, then he might even have a chance to play at the Olympics!

“Yes, I hope so. I will fight for a place in the national team. I haven’t spoken with head coach Vladimir Alekno yet, but I talked with the manager of the national team and with the General Secretary of the Russian Volleyball Federation and I was told that I am included in the national team list. Still, I have to wait for further decisions.”
