In their first year of existence as a club, Zenit Sankt-Peterburg took its place among the four best team in the country.
By eliminating No.4 Fakel Novy Urengoy in the playoff quarterfinals (2-0 in series, both straight-set wins), the younger of the two Zenit’s in Superliga progressed to the semis.
The Serbian Dražen Luburić topped Sankt-Peterburg club with 18 points in Game 2. Pavel Pankov served 4 aces. Egor Kliuka scored 17 points for Fakel.
