TUR W: VakıfBank record fifth successive win, PTT return to victorious paths

There were no upsets nor changes in the top of the table of the 2021/22 Turkish Women’s Volleyball Championship after the eighth round.

VakıfBank recorded the fifth successive win in the 2021/22 Misli.com Sultanlar Ligi. The ’Yellow-Blacks’ swept Sarıyer Bld. 3-0 in Round 8, having to completely focus only on the third set. The Swede Isabelle Haak (23 points) and Brazilian Gabriela Guimarães ’Gabi’ (73% reception; 15 digs, 60% perfect) stood out in VakıfBank. However, they still have to share the top spot. Given that Türk Hava Yolları (fourth win in a row) and Fenerbahçe Opet (third win in a row) also beat their rivals, Nilüfer Bld. and Aydın BBSK, respectively, in straight sets, they remained leveled with VakıfBank at 20 points and 7-1.

PTT, the sensation of the league thus far returned to the winning paths. The Ankara side started the season with 5-0, then lost two straight matches, but now prevailed over Karayolları in four sets to possibly set off the new streak and jeopardize the trio on top. Bulgarian Emiliya Dimitrova top-scored PTT with 22 points. Bahar Akbay set up five blocks.
